Chile eSIM: data from the Atacama to Patagonia, and straight about where there's no signal
From north to south, Chile alternates between cities with good 4G and long stretches with no signal from anyone. With an eSIM you pay up front for the data on the days with coverage, with no international roaming, and you know in advance which legs of the trip won't need it.

Why use an eSIM in Chile?
Chile is about 4,300 kilometres from north to south, and coverage changes as much as the landscape does. In Santiago, Valparaíso or Puerto Natales you have 4G without thinking about it. On excursions from San Pedro de Atacama, on the trails of Torres del Paine and along much of the Carretera Austral, no operator has signal at all. We'll be honest with you: an eSIM doesn't fix that. It works where the Chilean networks reach, and nowhere else. What it does fix is the bill, because the data you use in towns and on the road is paid up front rather than charged as international roaming.
Coverage — Chile
Chile has four main operators, with 4G and 5G in the big cities. San Pedro de Atacama has workable 4G in the village, but at the Valle de la Luna, the altiplano lagoons and the El Tatio geysers the signal disappears. In the south, Coyhaique, Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas have coverage; in between, the Carretera Austral has long stretches with no signal from anyone. Inside Torres del Paine there's no mobile coverage, not even for Chileans, and some refugios sell Wi-Fi by the half hour. On Rapa Nui the signal comes essentially from a single operator and is concentrated in Hanga Roa.

The best option for your trip
Chile is often one leg of a longer trip through South America. If you cross into Argentina, say from Puerto Natales to El Calafate, that's about five hours by bus with the border and barely any signal on the way, and a Chile plan is for Chilean networks: in Argentina you need another one. You can buy both before you leave home, because each plan's days only start counting when your phone connects to a network in that country. And before every long stretch, download offline maps in the last town with coverage.
