Ecuador eSIM: data for Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca and the road through the Andes
Ecuador is outside EU roaming, and your Spanish plan usually bills it as an international destination. With a data eSIM you land in Quito or Guayaquil with internet already paid for, at a fixed price.

Why use an eSIM in Ecuador?
If you're going to Ecuador to see family, a good part of the trip happens at home, and there the Wi-Fi does most of the work. The eSIM is for everything outside: getting a taxi as you leave the airport, meeting the cousins in town, following the map on the drive to the coast, or making a WhatsApp video call from somewhere with no Wi-Fi. Your Spanish line stays active, but keep its data off, because outside the EU data roaming is usually charged on top. And if you're also travelling around the Andes or the Galápagos, the journeys are exactly where you'll need data most.
Coverage — Ecuador
Ecuador has three mobile networks. In Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca getting connected is easy, and in the Galápagos there's 4G in Puerto Ayora and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno; in Puerto Villamil, on Isabela, it's a lot thinner. On mountain roads and in rural areas signal varies a lot: the villages on the Quilotoa loop have coverage, the high trails between them don't. We'll be honest with you: there are two places where the eSIM won't help. The Amazon lodges, where mobile coverage is very limited or missing, and the open water around the Galápagos, where the boats lose signal once they leave port.

The best option for your trip
Hundreds of thousands of people born in Ecuador live in Spain, and for many of them the trip is going home for a few weeks. The easiest way is to have it sorted before you leave: the QR code arrives by email straight away, you install it at home on your Wi-Fi, and the plan's days start counting when your phone connects to a network in Ecuador. When you land in Quito or Guayaquil, switch on the eSIM's data and message whoever is waiting for you at arrivals.
